Looking for jewelry making / metalsmithing classes in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Minnesota? Metal Heart Jewelry, is a jewelry school located in White Bear Lake, MN, 15 minutes north of St. Paul, MN, is a place where you can learn jewelry making and metalsmithing. In a class at Metal Heart Jewelry you can learn the fundamentals of metalsmithing like how to make jump rings, how to use a jeweler's saw, soldering, or bezel setting. Have fun creating sterling silver pendants, earrings, bracelets, rings and more!
No prior experience is necessary. In fact most people have never been inside a jewelry studio prior to to Metal Heart Jewelry. We understand that, and we welcome anyone to come and try metalsmithing for the first time.
In your first class at Metal Heart you will learn to use the torch, jeweler's saw, drill press, plyers, rolling mill as well as other important skills, such as building rings to the correct size and setting stones like turqoise, tigers eye, malachite or others.
As you progress in you studies you will have more creative contoll of your projects. You could focus on a topic such as ring making, pendants, or colored stones for example.
Classes are led by Kirk Sklar. Kirk recieved his B.A. from University of Minnesota - Morris, and an M.F.A at Washington University, St. Louis, MO. Experienced with a wide range of students Kirk has been teaching jewelry since 2000. Classes at Metal Heart Jewelry:
Don't have any jewelry experience? Don't worry. The Beginning class will give you all the information you need to make a great start in metalsmithing!
In your first session you will create the following items in sterling silver: two or more rings at least one with a stone, a pendant or two, earrings if you like. You will learn to form items from wire or sheet stock, soldering, texturing, and round bezel making (a bezel holds a semi-precious stone in place).
In an intermediate class you will learn more concepts of design, a variety of bezel shapes, and more advanced soldering techniques. Intermediates also have much more freedom in the creative process.
Small class sizes, all ability levels, choose the best time for your schedule. New classes begin about every six weeks, the schedule will be posted 4-5 weeks in advance.

July 7-11, 9am-12noon $240 Intro to Soldering - In this beginning class you will learn to form and solder sterling silver jump rings, as well as how to use jump rings and circles as elements in larger constructions. Projects include a pendant, earrings, and a ring. We will use drop beads to add color and interest. Participants are encouraged to bring their own beads for this class. A $40 materials fee is due on the first day of class.

July 7-11, 1pm-4pm $240 Intro to Casting - In this class we will be carving jewelers wax and casting sterling silver. Projects include rings, pendants, earrings or components. A $40 materials fee is due on the first day of class.

July 14-18, 9am - Noon $240 Dapping and Doming - What do you do with these basic lentil like shapes? Learn to form domes in sterling silver sheet metal, combine domes into elegant jewelry pieces such as lockets, earrings pendants, even rings. A $40 materials fee is due on the first day of class.

July 14-18, 1pm - 4pm $240 Wireworks - Learn to form and solder sterling silver wires of different types and sizes to create intriguing linear patterns and textures. Twisted and hammered wires will be used in contrast to smooth polished lines. A $40 materials fee is due on the first day of class.

July 21-25, 9am - Noon $240 Enameling - Explore color on metal in fast and fun class. Learn to torch fire enamels, make use of various textures in enamel and create finished pieces such as pendants, earrings, and rings! A $40 materials fee is due on the first day of class.
